As if I don't fit there
12', mini DV video, 2006

As If I Don't Fit Thereis a presentation about four fictional artists who decide to stop being artists and are not bothered by their decision. With silent printed text, they tell us why they quit, and what jobs they now have. Parallel to that they show us a video documenting what they did as artists. These characters seem to share the immigrant mindset, and by chance most of them present videos that look like previously existing artwork.

Slowly, the viewer sees that I take the role of these invented characters, exploring the state of metamorphoses, to reflect on artistic issues. This helps me tackle the question of constant doubt that confronts me as an artist. The result however, though based on (self) criticism is not necessarily negative or implosive, and this contradiction is another main aspect of the work.
